    Hi all

I have a strange problem... SWFObject's Flash detection is not working in IE6 (WinXP Pro) on two of my computers anymore. It works in IE7 and FF2, but not IE6. I've noticed it still works in IE6 on my old laptop and other people's computers (all Win2k).

The only differences I can think of are:
    1. The two computers that fail Flash detection are both WinXP Pro
    2. They both had Flash 2004 MX Pro uninstalled and Flash CS3 installed on them this past week

Is there an incompatibility in there somewhere? I went to Adobe.com and installed the latest version of Flash Player (Version 9,0,45,0) and still get the same results: XP machines with CS3 are not detecting Flash, and Win2K machines without CS3 work fine.

I kept investigating and came up with some more info:
    * Coworkers with XP could all detect the Flash file normally (using Flash Player 9,0,28 and 9,0,45)
    * A coworker who also runs CS3 on XP was able to detect the Flash correctly. The primary difference between his machine and mine is that he didn't uninstall Flash MX 2004... he has both Flash 2004 Professional and Flash CS3 installed.

Anyone have any ideas? This is kinda crazy.

Regarding IE plugins and stuff, I uninstalled some potential culprits, including SoThink SWFCatcher and the IE Developer Toolbar. No effect.

    Thanks :)

    Philip.

run the Adobe uninstaller first and then re-install the 9.0.45 player. I know of other people that have had issues after installing flash CS3.

    uninstaller info here:

Update: uninstalling Flash Player then re-installing using the Adobe website solved my problem.

    Thanks for the tip Aran.

I am having a similar problem as Philip. I have IE7 and installed Adobe design premuim CS3. Same problem seems to be happening as Philip described; My flash web pages come up on every other computer except mine using IE7 and adobe design premium/Flash 9. When using IE7 and I invoke my web page I get the comment I placed inside of my div "this tex replaced by flash movie".
I got the Adobe uninstaller as described above and then reinstalled the latest Flash player. Rebooted. Didn't work, same results. Repeated process, no luck.
    Any Ideas?

    Thanks.

resolved. I followed the discussions and found that there is a standalone flash installer for IE at http://weblogs.asp.net/derekh/archive/2005/08/16/422743.aspx
I installed this and now IE 7 works.
